On May 21, students from SKKU, Kim Gyure and Sim Wooseok won the Grand prize at the <14th DB Finance & Economics Contest>, hosted by the DB Kim Joon Ki Cultural Foundation. They submitted a paper titled "The Impact of Differential Policies by Company Size on Corporate Growth."
Additionally, Yang Jaehyeok and Lee Jin-kyu were awarded the Excellence Award in the 'Insurance/Banking' category for their proposal on "Emergency Budget Insurance Products in Response to Climate Risks." This contest aims to enhance the interest of university (graduate) students nationwide in the insurance and finance fields and to foster future talented individuals.

This year, a total of 424 teams participated, with scholarships awarded as follows: one team received the Grand prize of 5 million KRW, three teams received the Excellence award of 3 million KRW each, five teams received the merit award of 3 million KRW each, ten teams received the Encouragement award of 1 million KRW each, and 51 teams received the honorable mention of 500,000 KRW each. The grand prize-winning team and the three excellence award-winning teams will have the opportunity to visit prestigious financial institutions such as Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, BlackRock, and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) in the United States.

Kim Gyure, who won the grand prize, expressed his gratitude by saying, "I am grateful to the professors at the Quantitative Laboratory who always strive to teach us more. I believe that their guidance helped us achieve this result. Despite numerous trials and errors, I learned a bit about the rewarding process of research. I consider this not as an end but as an opportunity, and I will continue to do my best."
Sim Wooseok, who also won the grand prize, shared his thoughts, "I participated in the contest to earn creative credits, and I am delighted with the great outcome of winning the grand prize. I gained much more from the preparation process than the result itself. The process of facing and overcoming obstacles was an opportunity for significant growth. I encourage other interested students to take on the challenge."
Yang Jaehyeok, who received the excellence award, said, "From collecting statistical data to calculating insurance premiums, stepping out of theoretical models and performing practical tasks helped me solidify my career path in actuarial science. Although I initially feared writing the paper and presenting it, I overcame these fears by preparing with my team. The process itself was a valuable learning opportunity, and I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment from achieving a good result."
