2024 Homecoming Day Event

On Saturday, May 25, from 6 PM, the Department of Quantitative Applied Economics at Sungkyunkwan University held the <2024 Homecoming Day Event> in the Fairmont Ambassador Seoul Hotel.
The Department of Quantitative Applied Economics, established in 2020, aims to train specialists in economic data analysis and forecasting using the latest big data and machine learning techniques. It is the only specialized graduate program in South Korea that offers a tailored curriculum for professionals in institutions and companies needing expertise in data analysis.

About 90 alumni and current students attended the Homecoming Day event, including around 40 graduates from the first to third cohorts and about 40 current students from the fourth and fifth cohorts. Distinguished guests included Kim Sung-hyun, Dean of the College of Economics, Han Chul-woo, Head of the Department of Quantitative Applied Economics, Professors Han Hee-joon, Park Min-soo, Kim Hyun-chul, Choi Jae-sung, and Kim Duk-gyoo.
The event commenced with a welcome address from the representative of the fourth cohort student council, expressing gratitude to the professors and welcoming the alumni. This was followed by greetings and well-wishes from representatives of the third cohort alumni and the fifth cohort current students, emphasizing their hopes for the department’s continued growth and promotion.

Kim Jae-hun, 4th President of student council, expressed his gratitude, saying, "Thanks to the guidance from our professors over the past year, I was able to gain fresh inspiration for my work and research, achieving great results. Additionally, the past year with my peers has left me with cherished memories. I hope this event helps build strong connections between alumni and current students that go beyond mere acquaintances."
In his remarks, Han Chul-woo, Head of the Department of Quantitative Applied Economics, said, "I am especially grateful to the alumni who attended despite their busy schedules. I hope we can maintain strong relationships through frequent communication between alumni and current students."

Following the speeches, representatives of the alumni and current students presented plaques of appreciation to the professors. Dean Kim Sung-hyun, who received a plaque, stated in his congratulatory speech, "This Homecoming Day is particularly meaningful as it marks my fourth time attending as Dean. I extend my heartfelt thanks to Professor Han and the many participating faculty members who played a significant role in establishing the Department. I also urge the alumni, especially those from the first to third cohorts, to remain actively involved and contribute to the department’s growth as part of our College community. Our faculty will continue to provide high-quality education and support to ensure that the Department remains the best in its field."


The event concluded with a buffet dinner and a toast, providing an opportunity for alumni and current students to reconnect and strengthen their bonds through lively interactions.
